After a decades-long career trying jury and bench trials, serving as both a trial and appellate judge, and leading an Am Law 100 firm’s appellate practice, Judge Rudy Sorondo understands litigation from every angle. 

A former judge of the Miami-Dade Circuit Court and the Third District Court of Appeal, Judge Sorondo also served as an assistant state attorney in Miami-Dade. His combined experience as a litigator and judge allows him to anticipate challenges and structure proceedings in ways that give parties control, reduce uncertainty and deliver results. Judge Sorondo oversees disputes across industries and states, in sensitive, high-value matters with multiple stakeholders. 

As a mediator, arbitrator and special master in state and federal courts, Judge Sorondo handles complex commercial cases, including multimillion-dollar healthcare payor-provider disputes. Fluent in both English and Spanish, he is skilled at persuading parties toward practical resolutions, navigating strong personalities and facilitating dialogue that leads to mutually acceptable outcomes. 

In arbitration, lawyers rely on Judge Sorondo for his ability to manage proceedings efficiently, make decisive rulings and evaluate complex legal arguments with precision. During mediation, he persuades parties to find common ground, identifies practical solutions and maintains control of sensitive negotiations. As a special master, he oversees discovery, ensures compliance with court orders and resolves procedural disputes in an impartial, efficient manner.

A mentor to generations of lawyers and judges, Judge Sorondo has taught litigation skills at the University of Miami School of Law and lectured at state judicial conferences, sharing takeaways from his experience in appellate advocacy, trial strategy and complex dispute resolution.
